MENTORSHIP & EDUCATION

Building Brands, Live.

Clients see presentations. Audiences see finished projects. What they rarely witness are the conversations, uncertainty, and strategic decisions that shape an idea before it becomes a brand.

That is what made Adobe Live different.

Across three Adobe Live shows, each developed over multiple sessions, Adobe invited Studio Picante founder Chris Bernay to create branding and packaging projects in real time for a combined audience of more than 20,000 viewers. Two of the shows were broadcast from Adobe's headquarters in San Francisco, while the third was produced remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hosted by the talented Kristine Arth, the broadcasts became open conversations about branding, packaging, storytelling, and the thinking behind every creative decision. Rather than presenting polished case studies, the audience experienced the entire process as it unfolded, from the first sketch to the final direction.

Designing live is a unique challenge. There are no rehearsals, no edits, and no opportunity to rethink the narrative after the fact. Every decision must be made, explained, and defended in real time. It demands not only technical ability, but also strategic thinking, confidence, and the ability to communicate ideas with clarity.

The sessions explored different sides of brand building. Jump Festival challenged the audience to develop the identity of a fictional children's festival from the ground up, while Sham Soda focused on creating a fictional beverage brand through both branding and packaging design. Although fictional, both projects were approached with the same strategic rigor and creative standards applied to commercial work.

While these sessions took place before Studio Picante was founded, they reflect many of the principles that define the studio today. Every project begins with strategy, grows through collaboration, and is built on the belief that strong brands are the result of thoughtful decisions, not isolated visual ideas.

Adobe's invitation also represented something meaningful beyond the broadcasts themselves. It reflected trust in a creative professional's ability to think openly, communicate clearly, and represent the design community in front of thousands of viewers. That same approach continues to guide Studio Picante's relationships with clients today.

For Studio Picante, Adobe Live was never simply about designing on camera.

It was about making the creative process visible, proving that the value of design lies not only in the final result, but in the thinking that brings it to life.
