Dirtybird BBQ started with a grill, some speakers and a small group of friends in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Founded by Claude VonStroke, what began as an informal gathering grew into one of Dirtybird’s longest-running traditions, taking the label’s mix of house music, food and community to cities across the United States. The challenge was to let the event grow without losing the backyard spirit that made it recognizable in the first place.
The visual identity took its cues from the physical character of the BBQ itself. Picnic-blanket geometry met patterns inspired by pavement, bringing together two sides of the event: the familiarity of an outdoor cookout and the rawness of festivals staged in parking lots and unconventional urban spaces.
Dirty Font, originally created for Dirtybird Records, gave the system its typographic voice. An exclusive illustration by Bay Area artist Jeremy Fish, commissioned by Claude VonStroke, added another layer of San Francisco culture and became a central element across the event graphics.
The system was designed to travel across lineup communications, digital campaigns, apparel, signage and physical environments while keeping every stop inside the same Dirtybird BBQ world. From the Bay Area to Denver, Atlanta and Brooklyn, the identity carried the character of the original parties into a touring format without turning an intentionally informal gathering into a conventional festival brand.
