Dirtybird BBQ is an iconic music festival series that originated as a casual gathering in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, where Dirtybird Records founder Claude VonStroke and his friends hosted laid-back BBQs accompanied by house music in the early 2000s. Over time, it expanded into a more structured festival experience, keeping its community feel while growing its reach. Today, the Dirtybird BBQ tour takes place in multiple cities across the United States, bringing people together for food, music, and a unique Dirtybird atmosphere. It’s a celebration that still incorporates the BBQ element, making it as much about community and good vibes as it is about beats.
The lineup often includes a mix of Dirtybird label artists and emerging talents in electronic and house music. Some past standout performers include Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Walker & Royce, J. Phlip, and Shiba San, among others. Each event aims to foster a fun, inclusive space, and Dirtybird BBQ has become known for its eclectic crowd and quirky, laid-back aesthetic. The series is a beloved tradition for Dirtybird fans and a way for the label to showcase its music and culture nationwide.
For the latest edition of Dirtybird BBQ, Studio Picante crafted a dynamic graphic system that drew inspiration from both the classic picnic blanket and pavement patterns, visually grounding the festival's parking lot setting. Using the custom-made “Dirty Font,” designed by Chris Bernay specifically for Dirtybird Records, we developed an engaging visual language that honors the festival’s laid-back and urban atmosphere. To add a unique artistic touch, we were honored to incorporate an exclusive illustration by Jeremy Fish, commissioned by Dirtybird founder Claude VonStroke. This collaborative design approach aimed to reinforce Dirtybird BBQ’s signature style while celebrating its community-centric vibe, capturing both its creative roots and the raw energy of a parking lot festival setting.
